Wilma E. Gill, 87, of Austin, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

Wilma Elaine Heidtke was born Feb. 19, 1924, to Otto and Lottie (Bly) Heidtke in Spring Valley, Minn. On June 6, 1944, Wilma married Erwin Lawrence Gill in Spring Valley. The couple made their home together in Austin, where Wilma worked at Hormel before having their two children, Phillip and Debra. After the children were grown, she worked as a cook for the school district. Wilma enjoyed baking, crocheting, and making kitchen towels and washcloths. She loved giving to others. She especially loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and close friends. Wilma moved to Iowa in April 2011 and lived with her daughter, and then resided at Emerson Point from July until her death.

Survivors include her son, Phillip (Linda) Gill; daughter, Debra (Paul) Miller; six grandchildren, Emily Gill, Valerie (Greg) Michek, Katie (David) Falco, Natalie, Nathan, and Austin Miller; five great-grandchildren, Ashton, Nolan and Jaycee Michek, Dominic and Jillian Falco; special friend, Rita Heyer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Erwin; brother and sister-in-law, George and Oretta Heidtke; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Kenneth Renslow and special friend, Martin Heyer.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church in Austin with Pastor Marilee Benson officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the family for distribution to their charities of choice.
