The Austin Chamber of Commerce is preparing for a changing of the guard, so to speak.
Three members will be elected to the Chamber Board of Directors and another longtime member will be recognized with the Chamber’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual fall meeting at noon Wednesday at the Austin Country Club.
The chamber will honor Craig Johnson, a partner with the Hoversten, Johnson, Beckmann & Hovey LLP law firm, with the lifetime achievement award. Sandy Forstner, executive director of the chamber, said its hard to put into words all Johnson has done for the business community.
“He’s just a great example of someone who genuinely improves the community he lives in,” Forstner said. “He’s not just very involved, but he’s very successful in a variety of ways. He is very much admired.”
Johnson also serves as executive director of the Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin Foundation. He is also past chairman of the Development Corporation of Austin.
Nominees to the board include:
· Steve Gleason, commercial/agriculture. Gleason, a lender with US Bank, is seeking his second term. He is a member of the Executive Board of Directors and Government Affairs Committee.
· Mary Lynn Flaherty, co-owner Flaherty Paint. Flaherty is a member of the Downtown Retailers and Christmas in the City committees. This would be her first term.
· Chuck Moline, president CFS Companies, is also seeking his first term. He is a longtime member of the Government Affairs and Business Leadership committees.
