Police arrested a 19-year-old Austin woman Monday after she was reportedly darting in and out of traffic hysterically.
Police Chief Brian Krueger said officers located Sandy Torres on Fifth St. running across to Eighth Ave. NW around 4:20 p.m. Monday.
Torres was acting frantic and hysterical when officers approached her, a police report said. She reportedly screamed at officers that she was not OK, and she wouldn’t calm down after officers attempted multiple times.
According to Krueger, Torres kept trying to walk away from the officers. She allegedly attempted to strike one of the officers, but he blocked the blow with his arm. She then reportedly tried to slap him in the face. Eventually, police sprayed her with Mace and began transporting her to the jail.
Torres continued to verbally assault the officers, Krueger said, and she reportedly kicked a member of the jail staff in the shin.
The police report said Torres may have been intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Krueger said Torres could face possible charges of obstructing legal process with force, probation violation, fourth-degree assault of a peace officer and fourth-degree assault of a correctional officer.
