Gilbert M. “Gib” Heimerman, 82, of Austin, died peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at Sacred Heart Care Center.
Gib was born Nov. 12, 1928, in Stacyville, Iowa to Michael and Anna (Rauen) Heimerman. He grew up on a farm in the Stacyville area, later moving to Austin, Minnesota where he worked as a Glazier for many years until he retired in 1991. He was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church, and a member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 703.
On Aug. 31, 1957, he was united in marriage to Shirley Davis at Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Gib was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed working in his garage and watching the Minnesota Twins.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley, Austin; five children, Kimberly (Scott) Duncomb, Austin, Chrys Heimerman, Stewartville, Scott (Julia) Heimerman, Las Vegas, Shellie (Keith) Lorenzen, Sioux City, Iowa, Thomas (Terri) Heimerman, Woodbury; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brother, John (Thresia) Heimermann, Blooming Prairie; sister, Dorothy (Loris) Larson, Austin; sister-in-law, Marcene Heimerman, Stacyville, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Anna Heimerman; brothers, Gregor, Paul (Adella), Francis, Joseph (Angie), Michael (Wuanita), Sylvester (Judy); sisters, Stella (Leo) Smith, Rose (Clem) Mullenbach, Cecelia (Albert) Gilgenbach; nephews, Ronald Heimerman, Wayne Heimermann, and Alan Larson.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. There will be a 6:30 pm rosary on Tuesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. The family will also greet friends at at luncheon following the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
