An Austin woman was surprised Tuesday to walk into her garage and find a man allegedly trying to walk away with her full gas cans.

Police Chief Brian Krueger said the woman, who lives in the 700 block of 12th Ave. NW, walked into her open garage to find the man holding her gas cans. When she asked him what he was doing, he replied that he needs gas, according to Krueger.

The woman told him he couldn’t have her gas, at which point he reportedly dropped the cans, got into a green Ford Explorer and drove down the alley at high speeds.

The woman told police he headed south on Eighth St. NW. Police have no suspects, but the woman described the suspect as a white man who is five-foot-eight-inches and 185 pounds with short, black hair.
