The Hayfield football team had its season end when it lost at No. 2 LeSeur/Henderson (7-2 overall) 42-7 in the first round of the Section 2A tournament Tuesday.

No. 7 seeded Hayfield (0-9 overall) didn’t score until the score was 42-0 when Joe Volgarino scored from nine yards.

“They’re a good team and I wasn’t expecting them to be so powerful after watching them on tape,” Hayfield head coach Grant Klennert said.

Klennert hopes that his young Hayfield team, which started sophomore Cole Kruger at quarterback, will be better off next season.

“If they work in the offseason, hopefully they can be the grade that steps up and gets out of the funk,” Klennert said.
