An Austin man woke up around 12:30 a.m. to the police alerting him his garage was on fire.
According to Police Chief Brian Krueger, officers arrived at the house, at 1919 Sixth Ave. NW, to find the attached garage engulfed in smoke and flames. They had to pound on the door to wake the resident of the house, 38-year-old Troy Finley.
Krueger said Finley ran into the burning garage, concerned about the contents, and police had to pull him out when he became disoriented by the smoke.
The Austin Fire Department arrived minutes after the officers and extinguished the fire. It did not spread to the house.
The police report did not give a damage estimate or a list of contents. Krueger said the only listed item was a refrigerator that was in the garage.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
