Warm temperatures continue in region

It may have been warm yesterday, but it wasn’t record-breaking.

National Weather Service meteorologists say the 82-degree high on Wednesday didn’t break the previous 90-degree record weather in Austin in 1963.

A ridge of high pressure, combined with the La Nina phenomenon in the Pacific Ocean (where sea surface temperatures are several degrees cooler than normal) is what’s causing warm weather this October.

“For the long-term pattern, this is typical (of La Nina),” said Zack Taylor, NWS hydrometeorological technician.

The high pressure ridge should move out of the area over the weekend, which means some much needed rain could come through southern Minnesota as early as Saturday.
