The weekend provided plenty of bluster. Just how windy was it?

The windiest moment recorded in Mower County happened 1 a.m. Sunday at the Austin Municipal Airport when a gust hit 36 mph.

“It was definitely windy, that’s for sure,” said Brad Adams, meteorologist at the National Weather Service (NWS) in La Crosse, Wis.

Other high wind speeds during the weekend included 34 mph in Freeborn County, 44 mph in Faribault County, 36 mph in Steele County and 36 mph in Waseca County, according to the Chanhassen bureau of the NWS’ database.

Conditions should ease up on today, Adams said. The wind should die down and the clouds will break this afternoon.

However, a cold front moving into the Austin area on Tuesday is likely to push wind speeds back up to the 20 to 25 mph range, Adams said. And an arctic cold front may make for the same conditions on Thursday along with some snow.

“It’s not going to be a heavy-type, accumulating snow,” Adams said. “It’s just going to be a dusting.”

Adams said weather conditions should be pretty quiet for the week.
