The Riverland women’s basketball team showed how good it can play for much of the first half as it rolled to a 72-55 win over Western Wisconsin Tech in Riverland Gym Saturday.

The Blue Devils (2-2 overall) started the game on a 29-5 run over the first 15 minutes, but they slowed it down at the break as WWT got as close as 12 late in the game.

“It was a great 15 minutes,” RCC head coach Suzy Hebrink said. “But we kind of lost our focus and that can’t happen against better teams.”

Austin grad Rebekah Aase was the focal point of RCC’s offense and she got everything going. She dominated on both ends of the floor and also got her teammates going with an array of passes that ranged from full court lobs to dump-offs in the paint.

Aase finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists, 5 blocks and 2 steals.

“They were running down the court and I was just throwing to them,” Aase said. “It was pretty fun and we’re looking to go towards a fast paced game like that. I think we did a lot of good things today, but there’s a lot of things we still have to improve on.”
