Durward M. “Stan” Standinger, 93, of Austin, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center, Austin.

He was born Aug. 3, 1918, in Jackson, Minn., to George and Maude (McCracken) Standinger. He graduated from high school in New Richland and attended teacher’s college for one year. On March 29, 1943, he was united in marriage to Norma Hoven in New Richland. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served for three years. He was employed as a plumber and steamfitter, working for Scheid Plumbing for 35 years, and then for Boiler Control Service for 15 years. Stan enjoyed hunting, fishing, played baseball in the Southern Minny League as a catcher and enjoyed “umpiring.” He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and Local 6 United Association of Steamfitters.

Survivors include one son, David Standinger of Livingston, Mont.; daughters, Kay (Bob) Miller of Rochester and Lori (Robert) Bartee of Chesapeake, Va.; eight grandchildren, Kristen Kiecker, Kelly Olson, Briana Coons, Jacob Coons, Amy Standinger, Jennifer Standinger, Mindy Kenyon, Brandon Standinger; 10 great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Maude; wife, Norma in August 2011; son-in-law, Bruce Coons; sister, Helen Hansen; brother, George Standinger.

A Memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Military rites by American Legion Post 91. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
