The memorial service for Gertrude Oline Espe will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield with Rev. Paul Hauschild officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield.
Gertrude Oline Espe, 91, died at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield on Saturday evening, Nov. 19, 2011.
Gertrude Oline Esse, was born on March 3, 1920, the daughter of Ludvig (Clara Hammer) Esse in Ransom County, N.D.
Gertrude was united in marriage to George Espe on Sept. 23, 1948. George died on Jan. 25, 1979. Gertrude was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, Ladies Aide at Trinity Lutheran Church, was active with Hayfield Senior Citizens, played in the Kitchen Band and enjoyed all of the activities. Gertrude was famous for her cinnamon rolls and was always cooking. She was a longtime Hayfield resident and was an avid gardener and loved her African Violets.
Gertrude is survived by her children, Gary Espe, Hayfield, Minn., Suzanne (Terry) Barck, Minneapolis, Carolyn Espe, Dexter, Minn., Sarah Espe, Minneapolis, Fred Espe, Winona, Minn.; four grandchildren, and one sister-in-law, Charlene Esse, Bundaberg, Australia. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one son, Harold Espe.
