Iva A. Carter, 94 of Austin, died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, at the Sacred Heart Care Center, Austin, Minn.
Iva Ann Fischer was born Jan. 31, 1917, at Minnesota Lake, Minn., to William and Clara (Schroeder) Fischer. She attended country school and graduated as Valedictorian from Minnesota Lake High School. Iva was married to Lloyd Carter on Jan. 21, 1946, at Minnesota Lake.
Following high school, Iva worked as a veterinarian’s assistant; and after moving to Austin, she was employed as a secretary for Scheid Plumbing and Heating. After her children were born, Iva became a homemaker and a stay-at-home mom.
Iva was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, a seamstress, fabulous cook and loved to travel. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards and was an avid baseball fan and true Minnesota Twins supporter. She enjoyed attending as many of her grandchildren’s events as possible.
Iva was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Carter; son, Jan; her parents; two brothers; one sister and a nephew.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law: Brenda and Harry Willmott, Austin, Minn., Gail and Eric Tostenson, Byron, Minn; grandchildren: Stacy Jo Copley, Austin, Thomas Copley, Austin, Kendra Granle, Burnsville, Minn., Haley Tostenson, Byron; great-grandchildren: Tyler O’Rourke, Hannah Stewart and Johnathon, Copley; Sister-in-law: Pearl Fischer, New Hope, MN; Nieces: Karen (Don) Leak, Mountain Home, AR, Lynne Tolzmann, Rogers, AR, Diane Vossen, Minneapolis, MN, Jean Verkinderen, Lake City, MN; Great Nephew: Jeff Leak.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday Nov. 25, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with The Rev. Ron Barnett officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials.
