Avis M. Wood, age 71, of Austin died, Dec. 1, 2011, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Avis was born in Mantorville on June 29, 1940, to Maynard and Ruth (Sowden) White. She married Paul Wood on June 9, 1979, at the Crane Chapel. Avis worked at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home for 28 years as a dietary aide.
After her retirement, she enjoyed spending her time with friends and family. Avis was known for sending out cards at every possible occasion, to many she was known as the Card Angel.
Avis is survived by her husband: Paul Wood, Austin; sons: Dave White and special friend Dawn Tabor, Austin; Eric and Jayda Wood, Austin; daughter: Debbie and Randy Stahl, Hibbing; 11 grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Eugene and Diane White, Austin; Joann Nelson, Austin; Robert and Jeanette White, Eagle Lake; Gloria White, Austin; Ronald and Randee White, Waseca; sisters-in-law: Irene Schulz, Austin, Iva and Bruce Kruckeberg, Sioux Falls, S.D., Norell Durfee, Minnesota Lake; brother-in-law: John (Julie) Wood, Austin; nieces and nephews.
Avis is preceded in death by her parents Ruth and Maynard White, mother and father-in-law Carrie and Charles Wood, grandson Randy Stahl II, aunts and uncles.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church with Pastor Lindsay Stolen officiating. Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service.
