Fern E. Liverance, 94, of Spring Valley, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, at the Ostrander Nursing Home in Ostrander, Minn., where she had resided for a short time.

Fern E. Bly was born June 14, 1917, near Spring Valley to Bert Teft Bly and Etta (Krieger) Bly. She attended school through the ninth grade and was united in marriage to Malcolm Liverance on Nov. 11, 1942, at the Baptist Church Parsonage in Spring Valley. Together they farmed in the Washington area and raised two boys: Lee Liverance and Frank “Ole” Krahn. Malcolm died in 1980. At that time, Fern took classes and became a home health aid for Fillmore County for 10 years. In 1983, Fern moved into Spring Valley. She was a member of the Flower Club, the L. N. Club and a member of the First Baptist Church in Spring Valley. She enjoyed working on church and family history, her flowers, decorating cakes for others, chair caning, sewing rag dolls, embroidering, reading and word search puzzles. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her sons, Lee (Lori) Liverance of Iron Mountain, Mich., and Frank “Ole” (Karol Jean) Krahn of Ostrander, Minn., 4 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jason) Rice, Laura (Michael) Waksdahl, Emilee Liverance and Calen Liverance; four great-grandchildren; Jed and Miles Rice and Benjamin and Daniel Waksdahl; sister, Lenora (Louis) Schmidt of Spring Valley and a sister–in-law, Betty Bly also of Spring Valley.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Eva Main and four brothers, Bert Jr., Elmer, Lloyd and Donald.

Funeral services for Fern Liverance will be 11 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Spring Valley with the Rev. Joe Haynes officiating. Burial will be in the Washington Cemetery Sumner Township, Fillmore County. Friends may call at the Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour before the service at the church on Friday.
