The Austin boys hockey team scored first, but it wasn’t enough as it fell to Albert Lea (2-1 overall, 2-0 Big Nine) by a score of 12-3 on the road Thursday.
Preston Moe put the Packers (1-2 overall, 0-1 Big Nine) on the board with a goal in the first minute, but the Tigers scored the next three goals to close out the first.
“We started out OK and we were playing with them,” Austin head coach Tim Peterson said. “Then we stopped winning races to the puck and it’s tough to win when you can’t control the puck.”
Pat Wagner scored on a slap-shot on a power play in the second period for Austin and sophomore Alec Bawek scored his first varsity goal in the third period.
