Paramount Theatre has moved with the technology

Ann Hokanson, the executive director of the Austin Public Library, gave a presentation last week on the library and how it has changed over the years.
Since technology has made information more easily available, she asked our group if libraries would exist in the future.
We concluded that there will always be a need for the library. Its role may have changed over the years, but libraries have learned how to adjust their services and space to meet the changing demands of their patrons.
This idea of evolution is true for the historic Paramount Theatre and the role it has played in entertaining the citizens of Austin.
It was a state of the art facility when it was first built, offering a unique way to experience the movies. Gradually, it has been transformed from a movie theatre to a performing arts venue to fulfill a new need.
However, like the library, this new need cannot be completely filled using its current facilities.
In order to truly meet this need we need to expand and adjust the current space in order to offer the best experience for both the audience and performers. With these needs in mind, the Austin Area Commission for the Arts is developing a more concrete plan for expansion and improvements to ensure the Paramount will continue to be relevant long into the future.
Stay tuned throughout this new year as we will soon bring these plans into reality.
In fulfilling Austin’s entertainment needs, this new year will also be kicked off with the popular New Year’s Eve Extravaganza event at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31.
This year’s event is dubbed Big Country Music and features Grand Ole Opry star Millie Kittleson and the DC Drifter’s.
Join us in ringing in the new year.
