All this record breaking is becoming common.

Quality Pork Processors, Inc. workers once again broke the record for donating to the United Way of Mower County. QPP workers will donate more than $163,000 this year, up from $157,000 last year.

“Our employees always have stepped up and done a good job donating,” said Claude Pulliam, QPP operations manager. QPP workers usually donate over a week-long period. Since United Way is the one charity QPP endorses, all workers get pulled off the floor for a presentation every year, according Pulliam.

“It’s going back to our community,” he said. “If they live in Mower County, they know it’s going back to our community.”

The QPP donation is the latest record in what could be a banner year for United Way. UWMC is more than 80 percent to its goal of raising $1.1 million, according to executive director Mandi Lighthizer-Schmidt.

“It’s great,” she said.

The campaign will wrap up this month and pledges will trickle in after that. Lighthizer-Schmidt said UWMC organizers will have a good idea how well the campaign went in February and UWMC will make their annual campaign announcement in April.
