Remember Christmas is about giving, love and faith

Teaching children that it’s better to give than to receive is not easy during this season of commercialism.
At Pacelli Catholic Schools, we have set up several opportunities for students to think of others before themselves. Jesus teaches us through his example to think of others first. We are celebrating His birth, so it makes sense that we teach our students that Christmas is a season of giving.
Our kindergarten students are selling dog biscuits to raise money for the Mower County Humane Society. The dog biscuits can be given to the favorite dog. Our third grade students are collecting mittens and socks for children who are in need. They have a mitten tree located in their classroom which they decorate with the donated socks and mittens.
All of our elementary classes and even our preschool classes are going to be visiting elderly facilities; The Cedars and Sacred Heart Hospice. This is a highlight for both students and residents. They will be singing Christmas Carols and visiting with the elderly.
At the high school and middle school, we are again collecting donations for our annual Christmas basket project. This Pacelli tradition is in its 28th year. Students collect money throughout the month of December and then shop for a needy family. This amazing project really makes a difference for families right here in Austin. Because we lead by example, our Pacelli faculty and staff also adopt a needy family for Christmas.
Christmas is the season to celebrate the birth of our Savior and Lord. He was a gift from God to save us and the presents we give to others remind us of this gift. The focus of the Christmas Season should be what we can give to others. At Pacelli Catholic Schools, we reinforce the values that are taught at home and teach that Jesus is the reason for the season and that it is truly better to give than to receive.
If you would like to make a donation towards any of the above items, please contact our school office at 433-8859 or 437-3278.
