Richard Henry “Dick” Luth, 76, of Austin, Minn., died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at home.
He was born March 5, 1935, in Chicago to Walter and Della (Blaford) Luth. Dick grew up in South Chicago, where he graduated from Blue Island High School. On June 25, 1955, he married Doris Shockley in Oak Park, Ill., whom he met while both were attending the University of Illinois. Upon graduation with a bachelor’s degree in animal science, Dick began his 41-year career at Hormel as a Livestock Buyer with farmers in Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling and spending summers at the family lake home in Alexandria, Minn., and winters on Sanibel Island in Florida. Dick will be most remembered as the consummate husband, father and grandfather truly devoted to the family he cherished and loved so dearly.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Luth, Austin, Minn.; sons, Dan (Donita) Luth, Savage, Minn., and Jim (Sue) Luth, Savage; daughter, Kathy (John) Anderson, Prior Lake, Minn.; grandchildren, David Luth, Savage, Darian Jackson, Prior Lake, Devan Luth, Savage, Dylan Jackson, Prior Lake, Jacque Luth, Savage, and Kevin Luth, Savage; brother, Ron Luth, Mukwonago, Wis.; and sister, Janice (Jack) Rafferty, Montgomery, Ill.; uncle, John (Barbara) Blaford, Tipton, Iowa.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at Mayer Funeral Home with Pastor Marilee Benson officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and one hour before the service at Mayer Funeral Home on Saturday.
The casket bearers will be Dan Luth, David Luth, Jim Luth, Kevin Luth, John Anderson and Dylan Jackson.
