Timothy Robert Butts, 43

Tim was born June 7, 1968, in Austin, Minn., to Mike and Marge (Schupp) Butts. He passed away Nov. 19, 2011, at his home in Vine Grove, Ky.
He graduated in 1987 from Albert Lea High School and joined the Army in February 1988, retiring in March 2008. Tim was stationed at Ft. Carson, Colo., Ft. Riley, Kan., and Ft. Knox, Ky. He served two tours of duty in Korea. While in the Army he played on the All Army Softball Team. He was a member of the Sgt. Audie Murphy Club and participated in many special events with the Honorary Color Guard in Washington. At Ft. Knox, he was involved with training National Guard troops who were being deployed to Iraq.
He was a member of the Vine Grove Masonic Lodge 603 F&AM. A Masonic service was held Nov. 26 In Vine Grove, Ky. Tim enjoyed fishing, hunting, softball and the Minnesota Vikings. He had a very special bond with his grandson, Bobby Joe. Tim will truly be missed by family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Butts, Vine Grove, Ky.; parents Mike and Marge Butts, Lake Mills, Iowa; brothers, Tom (Jamie) Butts, Highlands Ranch, Colo., Todd (Cherri) Butts, Hugo, Minn.; daughters, Lindsey and Alison Felt, LaCrosse, Wis.; stepdaughter, Christine Harris, Taylorsville, Ky.; stepson, Thomas Cathey, currently serving in the U.S. Navy in Japan; grandchildren, Robert Joseph Wade Harris and Hailey Brooke Washburn, Taylorsville, Ky.; aunts and uncles, Robert J. (Jerry) Schupp, Aitkin, Minn., Larry and Kathy (Butts) Iverson, Austin, Minn., Ricky Butts, Albert Lea, Minn., Peter and Deb (Butts) Solie, Albert Lea, David Butts, Holmen, Wis.; nieces and nephews, Kailey and Colton Butts and Jasmine Taylor, Hugo; Taylor, Makenna and Ryan Butts, Highlands Ranch;cousins, Chad and Tisha (Iverson) Wangen, Cody Huston, Alison and Madalyn Wangen, Glenville, Minn., Chad and Maja Iverson, Tyler Rysavy, and Sydney Iverson, Austin, Cameron and Brady Solie, Albert Lea.
Tim was preceded in death by his grandparents, Eugene and Beverly Butts, Jean Schupp and Robert J. Schupp Sr. and his uncle, Michael D. Schupp.
The funeral will be Dec. 5, 2011 with visitation at 1 p.m. and service at 2 p.m. at Bonnerup Funeral Home, 2210 E. Main Street, Albert Lea. Burial with military honors will be at Hillcrest Cemetery following the service.
