Austin Public Schools is looking ahead at this Monday’s meeting.
The Austin Public School board will examine the 2012-2013 budget planning timeline, get an update on Sumner Elementary School’s 45/15 schedule, and will discuss Austin High School’s Course Registration Guide for next school year.
Sumner began this school year under the 45/15, or year-round, calendar with staff hoping the calendar switch would improve student retention and boost statewide comprehensive test scores, including the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment, the state’s benchmark under federal No Child Left Behind laws.
Though it’s too soon to tell whether the switch is effective using testing data, Sumner staff have previously said the time switch is effective.
AHS Assistant Principal Katie Baskin will also seek the board’s permission to apply for grant funding for the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support system, a school-wide program that creates a positive shift in a building’s overall behavior through subtle instruction and occasional lessons.
