Betty Jane Leppen, 87, of Brownsdale, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at her home in Brownsdale. She was born Sept. 5, 1924, in Minnesota. After arriving on the Orphan Train, she was adopted at an early age by a German couple, Miles and Margaret (Becker) Leppen. She lived on an acreage south of Austin where she milked goats, before moving into town. Betty taught country school and then worked in the office for the coroner. After selling her house in Austin, she moved to Friendship Village in Brownsdale.

Betty enjoyed the outdoors more than anything. She loved feeding and watching birds and having coffee and visiting. She was preceded in death by her parents, Miles and Margaret Leppen.

Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery in the Last Supper Columbarium at a later date. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
