The Austin boys hockey team allowed four third period goals in an 8-3 loss to Faribault (5-13 overall, 4-8 Big Nine) in Riverside Arena Tuesday.
The Packers (4-16 overall, 1-10 Big Nine) tied the game at three when Marcus Stoulil scored his second goal of the night in the second period.
Austin lost its momentum when it picked up two majors and the Falcons had a five-on-three advantage for five minutes.
While Faribault scored just one goal in that span, it wore out the Packers’ front line.
“It was a big feat to hold them to one goal but I think we got a little tired because of it,” Austin head coach Tim Peterson said.
Austin took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from Ethan Larson and Stoulil, but it allowed three goals in a three minute span to fall behind 3-2 going into the second.
“We came out fired up and ready to play and then we had a lapse,” Peterson said.
Preston Moe and Tyler Stevens each had two assists for Austin.
