Jennings lifts Cards over LP girls
The LeRoy-Ostrander girls basketball team edged Lyle-Pacelli for the second time this season when it won 61-60 in LeRoy Tuesday.
LO’s Jessica Jennings came up with a steal and a score with under a minute to go in the game to make it 59-57 and Krista Bunne hit two free throws to put LO (12-4 overall, 9-1 SEC) up 61-58.
LP (8-4 overall, 7-3 SEC) missed a game-tying three and scored on a put-back as time expired.
The Cardinals are now two games up on LP in the SEC West Division.
“It was a back and forth game throughout and it’s a big win,” LO head coach Aaron Hungerholt. “We match up well with each other, but they’re a little younger than us.”
Jennings hit three threes and scored 17 points for LO and Becca Bunne scored 18 points.
“Jessica’s a streaky shooter and she needs to shoot more and get more confidence in herself,” Hungerholt said.
Madison Truckenmiller had 19 points for LP, while Ann Rysavy scored eight points in just 15 minutes.
“When Ann sat on the bench it just took us out of our game,” LP head coach Brad Walter said. “Madison picked up some of the slack. But it’s tough for us when Ann is out of the lineup.”
