Late miscues cost Austin boys hockey team

The Austin boys hockey team saw a game’s worth of hard work go to waste in a six-minute span of a 5-1 loss at Faribault (3-10 overall, 2-5 Big Nine) Thursday.
The Packers (2-8 overall, 0-5 Big Nine) fell behind 1-0 in the first minute of the first period, but they held the Falcons scorless until Marcus Stoulil finally tied the game at one with a goal in the third period.
Austin came up with a powerplay that could’ve given it the lead, but the Falcons scored two shorthanded goals and added two more scores over a six-minute stretch that put things out of reach.
“We made some bad decisions with the puck during that power play and it completely swung the momentum of the game,” Austin head coach Tim Peterson said. “We need to find that mental edge to finish the game. I’m happy with the effort, other than the last six minutes.”
