Police looking for reported drunk man who entered multiple homes New Year’s morning

Austin police responded to a report of a man who allegedly entered two homes without permission and tried to enter a third at about 2:25 a.m. Sunday morning.

According to police Capt. Dave McKichan, a homeowner contacted police after the suspect, who appeared to be intoxicated, entered her home on the 600 block of Fourth Street NW, knocked down a shelf and fled.

Upon investigation, police talked to nearby residents and discovered the man entered another home on the 600 block of Third Street NW. The suspect tried to enter a third home at the 700 block of Third Street NW but was denied entrance.

Nearby residents said the suspect is 5-foot-8 black male with dreadlocks and was wearing a brown sweatshirt. Officials are unsure whether the man was breaking in or looking for his residence.
