Richard D. Placek, 90, of Austin, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at Prairie Manor Care Center, Blooming Prairie.
Richard was born March 18, 1921, in Decorah Iowa. His parents were George and Emma (Krob) Placek. Richard served in the Navy during World War II. He married his high school sweetheart, Lois Barneck, on Oct. 5, 1942. Richard worked as a mechanic at Hormel Foods for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, and his brother, Kenneth (Doreen) Placek Castaic, Calif.; sister, Virginia Prange, Carlsbad, Calif.; daughters, Patricia (Roy) Taylor, Flora Vista, N.M., Pamela (Arnold) Schwamm, Austin and Amy Placek, Blooming Prairie; daughter-in-law, Karen Placek; grandchildren, Jason Libersky, Michelle (Tim) Davis, Derek Placek, Allison (Tarin) Sellers, Kimberly Placek, Melissa Placek, Alan Adams, And Alex Enright; great-grandchildren, Michael Davis, Jacob Davis, Rayanna Placek Gabrielle Brossoit, Shelby Brossoit and Mason Brossoit. He was preceded in death by his sons, David Placek and James Placek.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, at the Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie. Friends may greet the family after the service.
