It wasn’t their cleanest performance of the year, but the Hayfield boys basketball team was able to walk away with a 56-45 win over New Richland-H-E-G (3-9 overall) in New Richland Saturday.
The Vikings (10-3 overall) missed 19 free throws and had 19 turnovers as they had just beaten Rochester Lourdes 24 hours before the game. The Panthers hadn’t played in nine days.
“I was a little bit worried going into it, and I think (the double overtime game the night before) contributed to our struggles,” Hayfield head coach Chris Pack said. “We held them to one shot and that was key. We did a phenomenal job on defensive rebounding.”
Brady Kramer finished with 10 points and nine rebounds for Hayfield, Cole Kruger had 16 points and seven rebounds and Bobbie Stephens had 12 points and seven rebounds.
Hayfield, which has won four games in a row, trailed 13-8 early, but it used a 32-10 run over the next 16 minutes to take over the game.
