William J. Schopf, 40

William (Bill) Schopf passed away Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at his home in Marina del Rey, Calif., surrounded by his wife, daughter, brother and mother-in-law.
Bill was born Aug. 2, 1971 in Edina, Minn. He graduated from Orono High School, Class of 1989. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota, where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He went on to earn his MBA from the U of Southern California. An avid sports fan and traveler, Bill explored the world and lived in cities as varied as Santiago, Chile, Miami, and then finally Los Angeles. Bill was respected and admired for his focused work ethic, adventurous spirit and profound love for his family and friends. It was in Los Angeles that he met the love of his life, Elizabeth Davies, formerly of Apple Valley, Minn. They were married on Feb. 14, 2009.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth and daughter, Dorthea Grace of Marina del Rey; mother and stepfather, Margaret and Bob Chase; father, James Schopf; brother, Brad Schopf; sister, Jennifer Martin, all of Minnetonka, Minn.; father and mother-in-law, Dan and Kathy Davies of Burnsville, Minn.; grandmother, Virginia Schopf and grandmother-in-Iaw, Dorothy Fischer of Austin, Minn., now living in Bloomington.
Bill fought a courageous battle with brain tumors for 38 months. There is comfort derived from the fact that he is now in Heaven with his Lord and his brother, Brian. He will be missed by more friends than one can possibly count.
Visitation was Wed., Jan. 18, at Rettinger Funeral Home, Long Lake, Minn., and the funeral was Jan. 19 at St. Martins By The Lake Episcopal Church in Minnetonka Beach.
