Benhart Royal Berg, 75

Benhart Royal Berg, 75, of Northwood, Iowa, died Feb. 19, 2012, at Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Northwood with the Rev. Karen Grandall officiating. Visitation will be held after noon Wednesday at the church.

Benhart Royal Berg, son of Jeffrey and Marie (Bendickson) Berg, was born June 30, 1936, in Northwood. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Northwood. He graduated high school in 1956 from Northwood. On Aug. 4, 1968, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Aspland at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. Ben was employed at Freeborn Foods in Albert Lea where he later retired in 2002.

Ben was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Northwood. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, working on cars and feeding the squirrels peanuts by hand. He was also an employee of Bridley Auto Salvage.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Phyllis; three children: John Berg (son of a previous marriage) of Northwood, Curtis Berg of Northwood and Joan Berg (Denny: a special friend) of Mason City; five grandchildren: Tina Berg, Tiffany (Joshua) Mellen, Nathan Berg, Trisha Hagin and Robert; one great-grandchild, Jessica; two brothers: James (Kathy) Berg of Northwood and Darrell Berg of Northwood; sister-in-law Marsha Berg of Fertile; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Jeffrey, Jason and Allen; a sister, Sharon.

Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood is in charge of arrangements.
