LEROY — The Lyle-Pacelli boys basketball team didn’t waste any time in putting the heat on LeRoy-Ostrander in a 75-48 win in LeRoy Thursday.
The Athletics (11-11 overall, 8-7 SEC) opened the game on a 13-0 run over the first six minutes of the game and they forced 25 Cardinal turnovers in the first half alone with their full court press.
LP freshman Jordan Hart, who finished with 12 points, seven steals and three assists, scored seven of his points during that early run that go LP going.
“We knew it was parent’s night and they’d be pumped up, so we knew we had to set the tone early,” said Hart, who has adjusted well to playing on the varsity team as a freshman. “It’s getting easier for me with every game.”
LP led 40-13 at the half, but the Cardinals (1-22 overall, 0-16 SEC) stayed even in the second half as sophomore center Zach Royston finished with 18 points and 15 rebounds.
“Our fist six kids played real well, but this is a team our second team should’ve shined against,” LP head coach Casey Anderson said.
LP’s Skylar Meyer finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks and David Diang had 24 points, seven steals and three assists.
The junior duo have also helped show the way to Hart and fellow freshman Jonah Rohne, who had seven points Thursday.
“They’re leaders and they help guide us through the tough times,” Hart said.
LP will play at Mabel-Canton Friday at 7:30 p.m. and it has three games left on the schedule.
“Every game matters from here on out,” Anderson said. “We’re finally hitting our stride at the right time and these kids surprise me each day.”
