Joyce Elaine McKenzie, 78, of Austin, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family.
Joyce was born Sept. 24, 1933, in Austin to Fred and Lucille (Nelson) Moehlman. She grew up in Austin and graduated from Austin High School. On July 2, 1955, she married Charles William McKenzie at Westover Air Force Base Chapel in Chicoppe Falls, Mass. The couple returned to Austin to raise their family. Joyce was a homemaker raising their family of seven children.
Joyce enjoyed the simple things in life including gardening, bird watching, and spending time outdoors with the sunshine on her shoulders. In her later years, she enjoyed trips to Colorado. Joyce’s most cherished moments were spent with her family.
Survivors include six daughters, Barbara (Mark) Cafourek, Austin, Lori (Richard) Schaefer, Faribault, Debra McKenzie, Austin, Carolyn McKenzie, Austin, Annette McKenzie, Colorado Springs, Colo., Lynette (Todd) Stundahl, Austin; son, Craig (Nancy) McKenzie, Sheridan, Wyo.; ten grandchildren, Andrea, Richard, Brandon, Jason, Katherine, Michael, Kyle, Shelly, Josh, Briana; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Jan (Gary) Corkill, Austin; brothers-in-law, Darryl McKenzie, Don (Darla) McKenzie; sisters-in-law, Betty Weber, Cheryl (Jerry) Baum, Charlotte (Rick) McKenzie; son-in-law, Steven Vaith.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Lucille Moehlman; husband, Charles Mckenzie; sister, Jean Hanson.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Mayer Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
The honorary casket bearers will be Andrea Cafourek, Katherine Vaith, Shelly Hernandez. The casket bearers will be Jason Vaith, Michael Vaith, Richard Schaefer, Brandon Schaefer, Josh Stundahl, Kyle McKenzie, James Roberts.
Memorials are preferred to Pacelli High School.
