U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar is coming to Austin and Albert Lea on Friday after first visiting Rochester.
In Austin, she will be touring Austin Packaging.
In Albert Lea, her schedule has her touring the Minnesota Corrugated Box plant, 2200 Y.H. Hanson Ave. on Friday afternoon.
She recently toured several Minnesota manufacturers, often touted as part of a “Made in America” tour.
Last month, she visited Duluth Pack’s headquarters and got a closer look at the packs sewn by hand. She liked what she saw so much that she made sure Duluth Pack was among the businesses at a forum Wednesday attended by 15 senators.
In the Senate, Klobuchar, DFL-Minneapolis, sits on the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, the Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation and the Committee on the Judiciary.
A former Hennepin County prosecutor, Klobuchar was elected in November 2006 and began her term as the first woman senator from Minnesota in January 2007. Her seat is up for election this November. Fundraising statements show she has $4.6 million in her re-election treasure chest.
The New York Times in 2008 named her as one of 17 women likely to become the first woman U.S. president.
