CALEDONIA – The Austin wrestling team fell to Lewiston-Altura-Rushford-Peterson 75-6 in the opening round of the Section 1AA tournament Thursday.

Austin (4-6 overall) had five regulars out of the lineup due to a number of circumstances as LARP picked up five forfeit wins and finished with eight pins.

“They were able to get on a roll, and we just weren’t able to stop them,” Austin head coach Bill Kinney said. “It’s tough for a team emotionally to get up for a dual when they know going in that there are five open spots and several mismatches.”

Austin’s Brandon Cotter had the Packers’ lone with a second period pin at 138-pounds.

Austin will now prepare for the individual Section 1AA tournament, which begins at Mayo Civic Center Thursday.

“We have a week to refocus, lick our wounds, get as many people healthy as we can, and get ready to make a big push at the individual section tournament,” Kinney said. “We are not going to let this dual define our season or our team. This was an outlier in what has been a very strong season for our program.”
