Marian Josephine Stahl, 92

Marian Josephine Stahl, 92, of Austin, Minn. died Friday, March 23, 2012, at the Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield, Minn. surrounded by her family.
Marian was born Dec. 28, 1919, to David Q. and Bertha (Dahlquist) Stephens in Austin. She worked at Hormel for years. Marian married Kenneth Halliday on Sept. 12, 1942, and they later divorced. She then married Herman Stahl Sr. on Sept. 11, 1944. They farmed in the Sargeant, Minn. area for 27 years. They sold the farm and moved to Austin in 1975.
Marian joined the Eagles Auxiliary and became very active. She helped with several clean-ups from different floods in Austin with the Eagles. Marian was “Mrs. Eagle of the Year” and with her husband, Herman, was “Mr. and Mrs. Eagle of the Year.” Marian belonged to Christ Episcopal Church of Austin. She helped with the making of sauerkraut and the suppers, baked pies and cakes when needed. She enjoyed knitting, word search, reading, cards, bingo and visiting with family and friends. She also enjoyed spending time with her special friends from Field Crest Care Center.
Survivors include three sons, two daughters, one step son and one step daughter: Kenneth (Beverly) Halliday, Austin, Kathie (Gerald) Yennie, Rochester, Minn., Herman Stahl Jr., Byron, Minn., Mary Hirsch, Wabasha, Minn., Donald Stahl, Rochester, Norman (Leona) Stahl, Mineral, Va., Bessie (Charles) VandeLinde, Manassas, Va.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren; sister, Florance Carroll, Calif.; many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herman Stahl Sr.; two brothers, Lewain “Steve” Stephens and William “Bill” Stephens; two sisters, Marguerite Earle and Ruth Wheeler; daughter-in-law, Amanda Stahl; son-in-law, Jack Hirsch.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Christ Episcopal Church, 301 3rd Ave. NW, Austin, MN, with Rev. Catherine Lemons officiating. There will be a 5 p.m. Eagles Ritual on Tuesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery.
The honorary casket bearers will be Marian’s granddaughters, Jackie Beltz, Renae Thevenot, Cindy Halliday, Staci Halliday and Lyndsay Fritchell. The casket bearers will be Marian’s grandsons, Jeff Halliday, Greg Halliday, Mike Petit, Gary Stahl, Andy Stahl and Tony Kunz.
The family wishes to express our thanks to everyone at Field Crest Care Center for their thoughts, prayers, comfort and help during Marian’s stay at the nursing home. There are not enough words to express our thoughts to you. Thank you.
