ST. PAUL, Minn. — A St. Paul man is being recognized nationally for saving a woman from a burning home.
Montell Mixon was named Monday one of three winners of the Citizen Service Before Self honor by the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation.
The 35-year-old will be honored at a March 23 ceremony in Arlington, Va.
Mixon rescued the woman Aug. 16 after she was locked in the bathroom by her boyfriend, who set the fire.
The other winners are James McCormick of New Haven, W.Va., and Brandon Wemhoff, of Lincoln, Neb. McCormick helped hundreds of homeless veterans find jobs and housing through his non-profit, Raising Cane Farms. Wemhoff risked his life to protect the people around him by foiling a robbery in May.
