An Austin man who was arrested Sunday morning after he allegedly slammed his vehicle into an apartment complex while drunk and fled the scene was charged Tuesday in Mower County Court.
Benjamin Williams, 32, faces four charges: gross misdemeanor refusal to submit to DWI testing, DWI, driver-involved failure to stop for an accident and driving an uninsured vehicle.
Police found and arrested Williams at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday — shortly after he fled the accident at the 600 block of 14th Street NW. According to Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi, the Austin Fire Department responded to the scene and evacuated the homes because the car took out a gas line. Nobody, including the driver, was injured. Amazi said the car caused significant damage to the building.
Williams is pending formal charges in Mower County Court for DWI and fleeing the scene of an accident.
