Council to hold second Coffee talk

Austin residents with comments or concerns are welcome to express them over a cup of espresso.
The city will hold its second Coffee with the Council from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, April 14 at the Coffee House on Main, 329 N. Main Street. Citizens of all ages who would like to meet and speak with the council are encouraged to attend.
The City Council started its Coffee event to give citizens an informal setting for making suggestions, asking questions and expressing concerns, according to a news release. Council members may also use the time to speak about current issues facing the city.
“We really have designed it without a big agenda because we want people to bring up whatever questions they might have,” said Janet Anderson, council member at large. Council members might, for example, get a conversation going by asking Austin residents how they plan to use the city’s parks now that the weather is warming up, she said.
Anderson plans to go over the recent redistricting with attendees so they understand which areas have been assigned to a new ward.
Anderson said she and council member Marian Clennon will be present Saturday, and other members may be able to attend. Mayor Tom Stiehm and council members Jeff Austin, Brian McAlister, Marian Clennon and Roger Boughton led last month’s Coffee.
The council plans to hold a Coffee with the Council on the second Saturday of each month. Venues will vary, depending on what works well for the meetings as well as each establishment’s owners, Anderson said.
The next meeting, in May, will take place at the Mower County Senior Center, 400 Third Ave. NE.
