Cynthia Streiff

Cynthia Jane (Reko) Streiff, 63, of Austin, Minn. died Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Rochester Methodist Hospital due to complications from cancer.

Cindy was born May 11, 1948, in Park Rapids to Jesse Merton and Marvel Lavina (Ladely) Reko. She grew up in Park Rapids where she graduated from high school. She attended beauty school at St. Cloud Beauty College and moved to Minneapolis, Minn. where she worked for five years.

Cindy met the love of her life, Marvin, and a year later they were married on Aug. 18, 1973, in Park Rapids. They then resided in Zumbrota for many years before moving to Austin.

Cindy was a member of the Crane Community Chapel in Austin, Minn.

She was very proud of her boys and grandchildren. She battled her cancer to the very end with a strong will to survive.

Survivors include her husband, Marvin; two sons, Matthew (Sarah) and Joshua (friend Sarah); one daughter, Stacey (Ken) Hormann; three grandchildren, Chase Streiff, Jordan and Joseph Sorenson; sister, Judith (Roger) Harsha; brother, Joseph (Wendy) Reko; brothers-in-law, Darold (Shirley) and Larry (Lynette) and one niece and many nephews.

Cindy is preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law Haven and Florence and special friend, Sinthia Nelson.

A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. on Monday, April 9, at Crane Community Chapel, 1111 Ninth St. NE, Austin, MN. Pastor Dale Christiansen will officiate. Memorials are preferred to the family.

Cindy has donated her body to Mayo Anatomy Research.
