Quiet solitude

Poetry explores depths of thought and feeling that civilization requires for its survival. — Stanley Kunitz
The other day someone stopped me on the way to the Coffee House on Main and mentioned my column, pointing out he prefers the quote that is offered. I had to agree.
However I have enjoyed writing poetry over the years down in the dungeon. It really isn’t a dungeon. It is in a crowded corner of the basement where I often wrote poetry on my aging typewriters that just sit there, now in silence.
I also have my little zen time in front of a woodcarving I whittled in high school with balsa wood. It’s quiet down there unless Echo comes down, and then I have to plug the waterfall in to get the water flowing. Echo enjoys the flowing water to sip on then together we make our way back upstairs.
I stopped doing that for a spell here, but then after a few weeks I felt like I was missing something.
Now I would like to share another quote titled Theology and Evil that reads: “Theology has become an evil because it is not so much a quest for truth as the maintenance of a belief system.”
Some people will be troubled with that, but it will ring true to others.
I highlight a Tuesday meeting a young woman who is advocating for Obama and I was invited to meet with her. However, at my age I don’t think I have fuel to work on this as I have other things that I hope are falling into place.
I hope to have my copy of “You Much Crazy” coming before long. My niece Jana and I met over the phone the other night to clarify the errors in the text. I even located a few. Jana outnumbered me in a great way, and she helped with the correction work of her big brother Eric or as I prefer to call him “Mongo.”
Then I had about a half hour chatting with Sheila Donnelly sitting at a small table out front.
