Evelyn Overton

Evelyn Louise Overton, age 87, of Austin died Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Austin.

Evelyn was born Sept. 9, 1924, in Lyle to Axel and Meta (Nelson) Denisen. She attended elementary school in a one room school house. On April 28, 1947, she was united in marriage to Aloysius “Al” Overton. He preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 1976.

Evelyn worked at Hormel for five years. She volunteered approximately 20 years at St. Edward’s Catholic Church cooking for many weddings and community functions. Evelyn won many blue ribbons at the Mower County Fair for her flowers.

She was a long time member of the American Legion and the Eagles. She enjoyed many years traveling with Al and seeing the entire United States. Her greatest pleasure was spending hours going to auctions. Evelyn was known by everyone.

Survivors include her son, Jim (Naita) Overton, Punta Gorda, Fla. and Aitkin, Minn.; her grandson, Blair (Joelle) Overton, Elk River, Minn.; three great grandchildren; two step grandsons; five step grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, Axel and Meta Denisen; her sister, Mildred.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. There will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Monday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
