Southland High School students came through in the clutch for area families.

Southland Middle School students bring in more than 500 personal care items to the Mower County Red Cross Tuesday morning.

A group of Southland students donated more than 500 personal care items to the Mower County Red Cross Personal Care Shelf Tuesday after fundraising the items over a five-day period about two weeks ago.

“It’s a wonderful thing you guys have done,” Elaine Hansen, executive director of Mower County Red Cross, told the students Tuesday.

Students donated things like shampoo, soap, shaving cream to the shelf, which usually helps about 450 to 650 a year, according to Hansen.

“It feels really good to help,” said Sarah Fasbender, Southland seventh-grader. Fasbender donated soap and shampoo, as those items were more expensive.

“We’re really excited that we’re able to help people with these items,” Hansen said.
