Steven Allen Cooklin, age 51 of Austin, died Tuesday May 15, 2012, in Steele County.

Steven was born March 8, 1961, in St. Paul to Rolland Dale and Lois Yvonne (DeSart) Cooklin. Steven attended school in Austin and worked as an auto mechanic. On Nov. 5, 1999, he married Patti Ann Anderson in Austin. For the past two years, he worked security at Hormel Foods Corporation.

One of his favorite pastimes was being a ham radio operator.

Survivors include his wife: Patti, Austin; son: Jacob (Stephanie) Cooklin, Waseca; stepdaughter: Amber Shindelar, Austin; two grandchildren; four step grandchildren; two sisters: Brenda (Jim) Waltz of Austin, Suzanne Reule of Vadnais Heights, Minn.; his father Rolland Cooklin, Minneapolis.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois.

A private family memorial service will take place at a later date. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.
