A 20-year-old Austin man who allegedly tossed a gun in the back of a truck before police could arrest him was charged Tuesday in Mower County Court.
Tywan Clark was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit and using a controlled substance while possessing a pistol, both gross misdemeanors. His bail was set at $6,000.
Police arrested Clark after homeowners in the area reported a foot chase in the 2000 block of Sixth Ave. NE around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. A bystander allegedly saw Clark walking back and forth on the road and toss his gun in the back of a truck near the 2100 block. An officer arrested Clark after finding a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol in the back of a truck. Though the magazine was empty, there was one live round in the chamber, the report states. According to the court complaint, Clark also admitted that he tossed a bag of marijuana in a yard; however, police could not find the bag.
His next court appearance is scheduled for July 5.
