Linda Irene Ottman, 60, Grand Meadow

Linda Irene Ottman, 60, died unexpectedly at her home in Grand Meadow, Minn. on June 17, 2012, while awaiting stem cell transplant for lymphoma diagnosed in November 2011.

Linda, daughter of Marshall (Pete) and Burniece Ottman, Grand Meadow, Minn., was born July 9, 1951, in Leroy, Minn. and spent her early years on a farm in Bennington Township south of Grand Meadow. The family moved to Grand Meadow in 1958. Linda graduated 1969 from Grand Meadow High School. Her first job was with the Nissner’s Store at Miracle Mile in Rochester. She was then hired by Mayo Clinic and was a 42-year employee of Mayo Clinic, most recently working in the Computer Configuration Center.

Linda was one of the first EMTs for the Grand Meadow Ambulance Service. Linda was an avid music enthusiast and loved many types of music. She sang for a number of years with the LBJs (a trio that performed in the region). She also sang with Second Edition out of Austin and until recently was the choir director for the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church. Linda was a supporter of bluegrass music, enjoyed jamming and performed regularly at bluegrass festivals and churches with her family’s band, Cedar Valley Bluegrass. Linda also helped with the Pete’s Pickin’ In the Pasture Sessions held at the Ottman Barn on the western edge of Grand Meadow. Linda was a charter member of the Southeast Minnesota Bluegrass Association. She also performed at the Cowboy Church in Cherry Grove, Minn. Linda was the soloist for numerous weddings and funerals.

Linda was a charter member of the Grand Meadow Lions Club. Linda was noted for her sense of humor and pulling jokes on people. Linda loved life, traveling, her family and her many friends, her cats, Frank and Martha, and her Toyota convertible. She faced her cancer with courage, fortitude and a positive outlook. She has left a legacy of wonderful memories for her family, friends and the community. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Burniece Ottman, and two brothers, Claron Ottman and Leland Ottman and sister-in-law, Peggy Ottman. Linda is survived by one brother, Darrell Ottman (Barbara) of Rochester; niece, Becky Gors (Dale Boggess) Waverly, Iowa; nephews, Glen (Penny) Ottman, Ramona, Calif., Dale Ottman, Lakeside, Calif., Dean Ottman (Scott VanderMaten) Minneapolis, Eric (Lynn) Ottman, Chatfield, Minn., and Jason (Mylene) Ottman, Grand Meadow, Minn., and sister-in-Law, Colleen Ottman, Prior Lake, Minn.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, June 30 at 10:30 a.m. at the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Friday, June 29 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. A private burial will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hindt Funeral Home of Grand Meadow. Memorials are suggested to the family.
