The Austin Area Commission for the Arts will be partnering with several organizations over the summer to offer free events for everyone to enjoy.
The first of these events happens this week as we partner with Riverside Concerts from Rochester to bring Austin a taste of their World Music Artists.
The Latin urban orchestra, Locos Por Juana, will perform at the Paramount at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Locos Por Juana is a two-time Grammy-nominated, bilingual jam-band formed in Miami.
They are most notably recognized by their electrifying dynamism onstage and their unique take of Afro-Caribbean music.
The present lineup consists of vocalist Itagui Correa, guitarist Mark Kondrat, drummer Javier Delgado, trombonist Lasim Richards and percussionist Carlos Palmet.
Their sound draws from the members’ diverse backgrounds. The heart and soul of their hybrid style emanates from Colombia. It is also influenced by Reggae, Dancehall and Ragga from Miami and the Caribbean; and hip-hop, rock and funk from the U.S.
Miami New Times has regaled their 2008 American Grammy-nominated release, La Verdad (Universal Music) as “the truth of a new multicultural, cosmopolitan generation, played out in the music that represents their cross-cultural connections.”
Visit locosporjuana.com for more information about the band and to check out their music.
Then, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Rochester and Austin CVB are partnering to bring Zenshin Daiko Hawaiian Drums to the Austin Bandshell.
In case of rain, the performance will relocate to the Paramount Theatre.
Zenshin Daiko is a performing group dedicated to teaching taiko to children.
They have over 40 performers ages 6–17 and are visiting Minnesota from Makawao, Hawaii.
