As a child Olive performed dancing and gymnastic routines at the Paramount Theater. At the age of six, Olive was asked to perform for then Minnesota Governor, Harold Stassen. In grade school she was asked to be the mascot for the Austin High School football team. In high school, Olive was a drummer in the Austin High School Marching Band, and was a candidate for Home Coming Queen. As a teenager, Olive danced competitively at the Terp Ballroom where she won several contests with her future husband, Robert.

On Dec. 5, 1947, Olive married Robert L. Wiseman of Austin at Queen of Angles Church. They had one son, Dr. Robert M. Wiseman, who is currently the Eli Broad Legacy Faculty Fellow of Management at Michigan State University’s Eli Broad College of Business, in East Lansing, Michigan. Olive was a Jobs Daughter, former member of the First United Methodist Church, Queen of Angels Parish and St. Edwards Church. Olive held several jobs in Austin including being the bookkeeper for Holtz Drug Store, and later did accounting for the Austin Sears store. In addition, Olive modeled for various Austin department stores, and had her own dance studio in Austin where she taught ballroom and tap. Olive and her husband were always involved in outdoor activities including fishing, hunting, golf and downhill skiing. They also built three vacation homes in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Olive was a direct descendant of Austin’s first shopkeeper and postmaster general, Alansing B. Vaughan, and Austin’s first school teacher, Mariah Vaughan. Olive’s ancestors were instrumental in the founding of Austin and Lansing, Minn., for whom the latter city is named, and who figured prominently in the early history of Austin. Robert and Olive lived in Austin for most of their lives, though they did spend a few years living in Colorado and in Rochester, Minn., following Robert’s retirement from the Hormel Foods Corp.

Olive was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, mother, father, sister, Virginia (Vaughan) Lohman, and brother, Bernard Vaughan, one niece and two nephews. Her body will be cremated.
