Richard Erwin Ostergaard, 83, of Austin, Minn. died Saturday, June 2, 2012, at his home.
Richard was born Nov. 10, 1928, in Morgan, Minn. to Harold and Henrietta (Christensen) Ostergaard. He grew up on a farm near Morgan. The family moved to St. Cloud, Minn. in 1945 where Richard attended and graduated from St. Cloud Tech. At 17 he joined the Navy and served for two years.
Richard attended St. Cloud State Teachers College and received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1951. On June 6, 1953, he married Flo Bursch in St. John Cantius Church, St. Cloud. He taught business education and drivers training in Gaylord, Minn. for seven years and Austin High from 1958-1991. Richard loved playing golf and bowling.
Survivors include his wife, Flo, Austin; son, Mark (Felicia), Eagan, Minn.; daughter, Carol Jones, Sauk Rapids, Minn.; daughter, Mary Stoltzner, Mobile, Ala.; son, David (Amy), Lakeville, Minn.; daughter, Amy Miller, Adams, Minn.; eight grandchildren; sister, Marianne (Duwayne) Sabrosky, Avon, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Bea Weyrauch, St. Cloud, LaVonne Ostergaard, Hoyt Lakes, Marie Ostergaard, Sartell.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Howard, Homer and Lyle.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes and Father Paul Nelson officiating. There will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Tuesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Military rites will be by American Legion Post No. 91. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are preferred to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, P.O. Box 9026, Pittsfield, MA 01202.
