An Austin woman who tried to walk away from a DWI crash she caused in January pleaded guilty in Mower County Court.

Emily Young, 25, pleaded guilty to gross misdemeanor refusal to submit to DWI testing. Two other misdemeanor charges, DWI and failure to yield, were dismissed.

According to the court complaint, Young turned left without yielding the afternoon of Jan. 16, 2012, and cut off the driver of a Mazda Protege, which slammed into the right side of Young’s Suburban. A bystander reportedly yelled at police to stop Young from walking away from the scene. Young had a broken nose, facial swelling and redness of the eyes and nose, according to police reports.

According to the court complaint, Young told the officer “… I’m wasted. I’m sorry. Don’t hate me.”

Gold Cross gave Young a preliminary breath test, which registered a .265, or more than three times the legal limit. Young refused to submit to an official blood test.

The other driver and a child in the Suburban were uninjured, according to Police Chief Brian Krueger.

Young is scheduled for sentencing on July 13.
